The primary symptoms of the condition are dramatic mood swings, impulsive behaviors, poor self-esteem, and persistent difficulties in personal and professional relationships. While mental health professionals may use screening tools to help diagnose BPD, a single, definitive borderline personality disorder test does not exist. Instead, a licensed mental health provider will diagnose BPD through a thorough assessment. Cause of BPD It is not yet known exactly what causes borderline personality disorder, but a combination of genetics, neurological, and social factors are most likely at play. For example, people with a first-degree relative who has the condition are about five times more likely to also have BPD. Additionally, many people with BPD experienced a past trauma that may have influenced the development of the disorder. Imaging studies have shown that people with BPD demonstrate structural and functional differences in their brains compared to those who dont have BPD. Diagnosing Borderline Personality Disorder Only a qualified mental health professional like a psychiatrist, psychologist, or clinical social worker can diagnose BPD. Usually, a diagnosis is made after a comprehensive assessment, which entails much more than a single test. The process may include consultations and conversations with previous caregivers, family members, and friends. A medical exam is often part of the assessment because it can help rule out other causes for the reported symptoms. Screening for BPD As part of their assessment, mental health professionals may use screening tools to assist with diagnosis.?? The McLean Screening Instrument for Borderline Personality Disorder (MSI-BPD), for example, is a 10-item, paper-and-pencil test to based on DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. The Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire (PDQ-4) offers another approach with 99 true or false questions that screen for several different personality disorders, including BPD. Professionals may also use resources like the APAs Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Personality Disorders to help screen for BPD.?? Screening for Borderline Personality Disorder Diagnosing BPD Ultimately, an official diagnosis requires at least five of the nine primary symptoms of BPD to be present: Fear of abandonmentUnstable and intense interpersonal relationshipsUncertainty about self-image or identityImpulsive behaviorSelf-injurious behaviorEmotional reactivity or instabilityFeelings of emptinessDifficulty controlling intense angerTransient suspiciousness or âdisconnectednessâ Often, ordinary activities and events can precipitate symptoms in a person with BPD. For example, when a close friend or relative takes a vacation or has to cancel plans due to a work conflict, a person with BPD may become disproportionately upset and angry, fearing abandonment.?? BPD Criteria for Diagnosis What to Expect If you suspect that you or a loved one has BPD, look for a mental health professional with experience diagnosing and treating personality disorders. When you arrive for your first session with your new therapist, you may feel nervous or uncomfortable. Your therapist should share their diagnostic approach with you, but dont hesitate to ask questions about what their assessment might entail. The assessment may carry over into a few sessions. Thats OK. Your therapist will ask you questions about your symptoms, health history, and life. You may be asked to complete a questionnaire or screening test. If you are diagnosed with BPD, your therapist will discuss recommended treatment options to help you manage your symptoms and feel better. What to Expect During a BPD Assessment Treating Borderline Personality Disorder BPD treatment typically involves some combination of therapy, medication, and social support. Therapy may include dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, or psychodynamic psychotherapy. Medications such as mood stabilizers, antidepressants, or antipsychotics may also be helpful. Often, treatment plans are adjusted over time based on trial and error. In addition, adhering to some of the following lifestyle modifications may be useful in recovering from BPD: Maintain a regular eating and sleeping scheduleExercise regularlySpend time with friends and family and build trusting relationships with people you can confide inInform friends, family, and co-workers about what may trigger symptomsBe patient with your progressLearn about your condition and stay informed about treatment optionsAvoid alcohol and drugs Its important to note that BDP frequently co-occurs with other mental illnesses like depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, or substance abuse. A study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders found that BPD is a risk factor for bipolar disorder, and one-fifth of people with BPD also have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.?? This can make a diagnosis and effective treatment of BPD more difficult. The 9 Best Online Therapy Programs A Word From Verywell Borderline personality disorder is associated with a high risk of self-harm or suicide. If you or someone you know is exhibiting symptoms of BPD or any other mental illness, its important to talk to a doctor and get help. While there is no single test you can take to diagnose BPD, a licensed mental health professional can help determine whether your symptoms indicate BPD or another personality disorder and most importantly, recommend treatment that can improve your quality of life. Who Were the Roman Gladiators
A Roman gladiator was a man (rarely a woman), typically a slave or convicted criminal, who participated in one-on-one battles with each other, often to the death, for the entertainment of crowds of spectators in the Roman Empire. Gladiators were mostly first-generation slaves who had been bought or acquired in war or were convicted criminals, but they were a surprisingly diverse group. They usually were common men, but there were a few women and a few upper-class men who had spent their inheritances and lacked other means of support. Some emperors such as Commodus (ruled 180ââ¬â192 CE) played as gladiators for the thrill; the warriors came from all parts of the empire. However they ended up in the arena, in general, throughout the Roman era they were considered crude, loathsome, doomed, and lost men altogether, without worth or dignity. They were part of the class of moral outcasts, the infamia. History of the Games The combat between gladiators had its origins in Etruscan and Samnite funeral sacrifices, ritual killings when an elite personage died. The first recorded gladiatorial games were given by the sons of Iunius Brutus in 264 BCE, events that were dedicated to their fathers ghost. In 174 BCE, 74 men fought for three days to honor the dead father of Titus Flaminus; and up to 300 pairs fought in the games offered to the shades of Pompey and Caesar. The Roman emperor Trajan caused 10,000 men to fight for four months to celebrate his conquest of Dacia. During the earliest battles when the events were rare and the chances of death were about 1 in 10, the fighters were almost entirely prisoners of war. As the numbers and frequency of the games increased, the risks of dying also increased, and Romans and volunteers began enlisting. By the end of the Republic, about half of the gladiators were volunteers. Training and Exercise Gladiators were trained to fight in special schools called ludi (singular ludus). They practiced their art at the Colosseum, or in circuses, chariot racing stadiums where the ground surface was covered with blood-absorbing harena sand (hence, the name arena). They generally fought one another, and were rarely, if ever, matched with wild animals, despite what you may have seen in the movies. Gladiators were trained at the ludi to fit into specific gladiator categories, which were organized based on how they fought (on horse back, in pairs), what their armor was like (leather, bronze, decorated, plain), and what weapons they used. There were horseback gladiators, gladiators in chariots, gladiators who fought in pairs, and gladiators named for their origin, like the Thracian gladiators. Health and Welfare Popular skilled gladiators were allowed to have families, and could become very wealthy. From under the debris of the volcanic eruption of 79 CE in Pompeii, a presumed gladiators cell (that is, his room in a ludi) was found that included jewels that may have belonged to his wife or mistress. Archaeological investigations in a Roman gladiators cemetery in Ephesus identified 67 men and one womanââ¬âthe woman was likely a gladiators wife. The average age at death of the Ephesus gladiator was 25, slightly more than half the lifespan of the typical Roman. But they were in excellent health and received expert medical care as evidenced by perfectly healed bone fractures. Gladiators were often referred to as hordeariià or barley men, and, perhaps surprisingly, they ate more plants and less meat than average Romans. Their diets were high in carbohydrates, with an emphasis on beans and barley. They drank what must have been vile brews of charred wood or bone ash to increase their calcium levelsââ¬âanalysis of the bones at Ephesus found very high levels of calcium. Benefits and Costs The gladiator life was clearly risky. Many of the men in the Ephesus cemetery died after having survived multiple blows to the head: ten skulls had been bashed by blunt objects, and three had been punctured by tridents. Cut marks on rib bones show that several were stabbed in the heart, the ideal Roman coup de grace. In the sacramentum gladiatorium or oath of the Gladiator the potential gladiator, whether slave or hitherto free man, swore uri, vinciri, verberari, ferroque necari patiorââ¬âI will endure to be burned, to be bound, to be beaten, and to be killed by the sword. The gladiators oath meant that he would be judged dishonorable if he ever showed himself unwilling to be burned, bound, beaten, and killed. The oath was one wayââ¬âthe gladiator demanded nothing of the gods in return for his life. However, victors received laurels, monetary payment, and any donations from the crowd. They could also win their freedom. At the end of a long service, a gladiator won a rudis, a wooden sword which was wielded in the games by one of the officials and used for training. With the rudis in hand, a gladiator might then become a gladiator trainer or a freelance bodyguardââ¬âlike the men who followed Clodius Pulcher, the good-looking trouble-maker who plagued Ciceros life. Thumbs Up! Gladiatorial games ended one of three ways: one of the combatants called for mercy by raising his finger, the crowd asked for the end of the game, or one of the combatants was dead. A referee known as the editor made the final decision about how a particular game ended. There appears to be no evidence that the crowd signified their request for the life of the combatants by holding their thumbs upââ¬âor at least if it was used, it probably meant death, not mercy. A waving handkerchief did signify mercy, and graffiti indicates the shouting of the words dismissed also worked to save a downed gladiator from death. Attitudes Towards the Games The Roman attitudes towards the cruelty and violence of the gladiator games were mixed. Writers like Seneca may have expressed disapproval, but they attended the arena when the games were in process. The Stoic Marcus Aurelius said that he found the gladiatorial games boring and abolished a tax on gladiator sale to avoid the taint of human blood, but he still hosted lavish games. Gladiators continue to fascinate us, especially when they are seen to rebel against oppressive masters. Thus we have seen two gladiator box-office smash hits: the 1960 Kirk Douglas Spartacus and the 2000 Russell Crowe epic Gladiator. In addition to these movies stimulating interest in ancient Rome and the comparison of Rome with the United States, art has affected our view of gladiators. Gà ©rà ´mes painting Pollice Verso (Thumb Turned or Thumbs Down), 1872, has kept alive the image of gladiator fights ending with a thumbs up or thumbs down gesture, even if untrue. Gender Roles in the Play Trifles Essay - 3006 Words
Gender roles have caused strain over decades to not only females, but recently males as well. There are many attributes that humans have associated with each gender, causing a divide between sexes not only with each other, but also separating the two into almost completely different species. Due to this categorizing which is placed on gender, there can be a declining value of a person or even a higher hand given to the one gender which is seen as more powerful to society. The stereotypical labeling of genders can determine one personââ¬â¢s outlook on life. Home life is a core area that can be the biggest influence on ones opinions of gender roles. The content of the article ââ¬Å"Parental Influence on Childrenââ¬â¢s Socialization to Gender Rolesâ⬠written by Susan Witt introduces where stereotypical gender association derives. Gender roles can easily be adopted through the household and when children are placed in an environment where it is easily transmitted through the parentsââ¬â¢ then that child will follow their parentsââ¬â¢ influences (Witt, par. 1). Schooling, media, and society are also large influences on children at a young age to behave a certain way. Self-concept is also a large chunk of the way children see themselves when they begin to grow and criticism from parents can be a large influence on shaping that childââ¬â¢s perspective (Witt, par. 3). As humans we nurture newborns and associate them with their gender immediately. Whether this be the colors concerning their gender before they are even born, their clothing as a baby, even the toys we supply them with as children, humans gravitate naturally to associate certain characteristics with gender. Climatic issues have to set in serious history in order to make the auditorium edifice envelope that are thermally comfy and bring forth the least impact on the environing environment. With the consequence and influence of ââ¬Å"Global Warmingâ⬠and the escalating monetary value of electricity, maintaining the indoor to be cool will turn as an of import issue in the hereafter. The largest energy consumer in the edifice, particularly the auditorium is the air-conditioning system. However, the air-conditioning system besides has the largest nest eggs possible sing to this issue. The 2nd largest energy consumer in the auditorium is the illuming system. When unreal lightings are runing, it consumes electricity and generates heat into the indoor infinite. Therefore, the energy ingestion is increased as there is a demand for more cooling burden. For an enclosed edifice like an auditorium, other steps are resorted, like the energy-efficient electrical contraptions. For illustration, energy-saving lightings, high efficiency air-conditioners and last but non least, the sophisticated edifice services control system. However, before sing neither the electrical contraptions nor the chilling system, a inactive method should be the get downing point to supply an efficient edifice envelope. Assorted architectural solutions have been used in the tropical clime to chair the consequence of the intense Sun on the auditorium design. Orientation of the edifice, light colour wall pigment, proper shadowing devices and the well-insulated edifice envelope. The design of the auditorium, which integrating the inactive methods should be adhered to before put ining the energy efficient mechanical and electrical edifice system. It is decidedly assisting to cut down energy ingestion in a right manner. Material like the polished aluminum sheet used as external facing is a fillip point as thermic insularity in the tropical clime. It has high value of coefficient of reflection and aesthetically nice in looking. If the budget is allowable, insularity bed can be put in the wall building and a plaster board on the internal wall surface as a dual insularity bed. Additionally, mineral wool and fiber board have a positive influence on the OTTV analysis. It has been found that utilizing insularity can heighten the internal comfort status by increasing the thermic opposition of the wall. Surprisingly, the dual wall system for the auditorium is non the best system in the tropical clime. If there is budget restraint, a simple brick wall building with 13mm thick plaster applied on both sides of the wall of the auditorium can run into a satisfactory degree. White coloring material is ever the best coloring material for the tropical clime. Besides, dual glazed clear glass with low-e is the best glazing which suit to tropical clime. Double glassy glass should be the pick of glazing type for the auditorium as it depends to the full on the air-conditioning system. It is really of import to protect the window from direct solar heat addition. The gaps of the wall should take into serious consideration. Opening at East-West lifts must be avoided as it brings in direct heat and serious solar radiation. If the gaps are ineluctable for the East and West lift, shadowing devices should be attached to supply the proper shading consequence. By agencies of suited shadowing devices aid relieve the comfort status in the auditorium. In this context, the horizontal shading devices suit for East and West lifts while the perpendicular shading devices are the better option for North and South lifts. Proper pick of edifice stuffs can cut down the solar radiation penetrates to the internal infinite of the auditorium. It is really important for the auditorium in tropical clime. Materials with low thermic transmittal and low heat capacity are the most preferred to forestall the heat accumulate in the edifice envelope during daylight. The heat, which accumulated would radiate into the internal infinite of the auditorium in the dark when the air current velocity tends to be lower. Consequently, hot air temperature and high humidness caused hapless indoor air quality in the auditorium. When there is a map in the dark, it utilizes more energy in order to unclutter the unwanted air in the auditorium. As the UBBL is amended to follow with OTTV computation at the design phase before the building, construct environment in Malaysia is now concerned about a more energy-efficient and sustainable edifice, in term of the building stuff, edifice design, energy efficient edifice services and contraptions and so on. Now the to the full active manner edifice like auditorium is deriving its attending to be a green edifice. There will be lesser and lesser energy wastage created by auditorium in the hereafter. The smart system like the Building Automation System ( BAS ) in the auditorium should be implemented good. It would be ineffectual if no 1 to supervise the uninterrupted public presentation of the edifice system. The BAS system needs regular monitoring and bettering the position quo. The Energy Management System ( EMS ) is now a tendency for energy efficient edifice. On the other manus, renewable energy is now a manner frontward in order to prolong the ecological environment. It is particularly of import for the auditorium, which consumes higher energy than the other type of edifices. A sustainable auditorium is of import as it leads the betterment to the other to the full active manner edifices like the shopping complex and hotel. The probe and surveies done on the sustainability of the auditorium are for the endurance of thuman in the hereafter. The physique environment which helps planetary heating should be reduced. DIRECTIONS FOR FUTURE STUDY It is undeniable that the figure of surveies and publications on the relationship of clime to architecture, people and energy usage is really extended. Undoubtedly, a assortment of theoretical and proficient jobs should be solved before a existent ecological architecture can be created in the tropical states. In order to hold the decision of future surveies even more useable, different auditorium should be tested to obtain more complete informations sets. Additionally, it is advisable to utilize questionnaires as parallel subjective surveies to acquire the subjective comfort informations. Future surveies can include a more elaborate survey of the hair-raiser works room control, included more informations from the hair-raiser operation on the behavior of the roomsââ¬â¢ airing systems. In a nutshell, the probe of this survey was limited to merely one instance survey auditorium. Further surveies on assorted instances of auditorium in Malaysia are recommended to derive more accurate rating. How to cite Climate Issues and their Effects on Architecture, Essay examples

Medical Translation functionalist approaches Essay Example
Medical Translation: functionalist approaches Essay Medical Translation: functionalist attacks Translation is used in every twenty-four hours life and is used in multiple Fieldss of work. Translation is defined in the Collins Dictionary as a piece of composing or address that has been translated into another action and as the act of interpreting something . The two definitions point to the two different ways interlingual rendition is explained, the first as being the merchandise produced by the transcriber and the 2nd as the existent procedure of interlingual rendition. The lexicon of Translation Studies to boot introduces sub types of interlingual rendition such as literary interlingual rendition, proficient interlingual rendition, subtitling and machine interlingual rendition. . .interpreting ( Hatim, Munday: 2004 ) . The sub type I shall be discoursing is medical interlingual rendition. We will write a custom essay sample on Medical Translation: functionalist approaches specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Medical Translation: functionalist approaches specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Medical Translation: functionalist approaches specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer At every milepost, interlingual rendition was the key to scientific advancement as it unlocked for each consecutive discoverer and discoverer the heads of predecessors who expressed their advanced ideas in another linguistic communication ( Fischbach: Wright1993 ) . Translation has been used since Hippocrates and Galen in Greek and was translated chiefly into Latin and Arabic, Arabic particularly in the Middle Ages. This spread cognition to the Western universe bring forthing interlingual renditions into Castilian and English. [ 1 ]associating sentence to medical interlingual rendition today*i.e. English taking over as lingua franca Whilst medical interlingual rendition portions many characteristics with other sub types in that it involves accommodating to cultural differences, utilizing technological tools and pass oning through lingual barriers, this bomber type has many fortes of its ain. When interpreting a medical text, one must be careful to pass on the specific cognition right. Factual complexness and truth becomes a chief precedence for the transcriber. Medical nomenclature, communicative state of affairss ( among specializers, in the mass media, in instruction, to patients, in runs and internationally ) , medical genres and medical moralss besides influence the manner in which interlingual rendition is produced. I shall be concentrating on functional attacks to interlingual rendition, presenting Vermeer s Skopostheorie, Reiss theory of text types and functional equality and lexical equality, using them to the facets of specific audiences, Latin based footings, medical English standardizations and m edical texts. Functionalism is the wide term used for the many theories that attack interlingual rendition utilizing functionalist methods. It focuses on the importance of the map or maps of the mark text instead than the lingual equality to the beginning text. Texts are produced with a specific intent or map in head. The get downing point for any interlingual rendition is hence non the lingual surface construction of the ST, but the intent of the TT ( Nord: 1997 ) . It besides includes the impression of interlingual rendition as communicating. Translation is defined as a purposeful, transcultural activity whose lingual signifier depends on the map or the intent of the mark text. Action, communicating and cultural theories are included under the rubric of functionalism. Skopostheorie, translational action theory and Reiss and Vermeer s general theory of interlingual rendition will be discussed in farther item. The chief theory within functionalist attacks is Skopostheorie, ( Skopos intending intent in Greek ) by Hans J. Vermeer. Vermeer believes that linguistics entirely is non plenty for interlingual rendition as he believes non all jobs can be solved entirely through linguistic communication abilities but that the premier chief finding any interlingual rendition procedure is the intent ( Skopos ) of the overall translational action ( Vermeer: Nord1997 ) . He understands interlingual rendition as a human action and that all actions are knowing and purposeful behaviors. Any signifier of translational action, including therefore interlingual rendition itself, may be conceived as an action, as the name implies. Any action has an purpose, a intent. [ . . . ] The word Skopos, so, is a proficient term for the purpose or intent of a interlingual rendition ( Vermeer1989 ) . He besides adds that these behaviors take topographic point in state of affairss which happen in civilizations which accordingly leads to the Skopostheorie being civilization particular as Holz-Manttari explains in farther item. From this idea, Vermeer derives a general Skopos regulation, which states: translate/interpret/speak/write in a manner that enables your text/translation to map in a state of affairs in which it is used and with the people who want to utilize it and exactly in the manner they want it to work . This regulation is designed to work out quandaries such as free vs. faithful interlingual rendition or dynamic vs. formal equality. Another general regulation mentioned which will be discussed once more later is the coherency regulation which concerns the mark text must be consistent to let the intended users to understand it in their situational fortunes. Another of import factor of Skopostheorie is that of the addressee which is the receiving system or the audience. The interlingual rendition must be directed towards them, which is why purpose and the coherency regulation are so of import. *** Holz-Mantarri s translational action theory goes farther than the Vermeer in that she wholly disregards the word interlingual rendition , mentioning to it alternatively as message senders. She describes interlingual rendition as a complex action designed to accomplish a peculiar intent . The intent of this theory is to make the ability to direct messages across civilization and linguistic communication barriers by experts ( transcribers ) . She besides highlights the actional facets of the interlingual rendition procedure such as the transcriber, instigator, message receiving system and the situational conditions in which the action ( of interlingual rendition ) takes topographic point. She calls this intercultural cooperation. The audience, as mentioned before, is one of the most of import factors in Skopostheorie. Medic al interlingual rendition requires the transcriber to be faithful to the client every bit good as the beginning text*** In the medical field, there are two chief types of audiences: the ballad audience and the adept audience. Often, when interpreting medical proficient footings, which is really common and can do jobs, footings can be changed or borrowed in order to do sense in the mark civilization. Because Latin was one time the tongue franca of medical specialty and Greek was the original linguistic communication of medical text, there still exists today a great sum of Latin and Greek based words and the usage of Latin and Greek postfixs and prefixes. This subject has proved hard for transcribers as it challenges the Skopostheorie in that lingual equality is non necessary. We see here that this is non ever the instance. The usage of Latin words is highly common in English ; words such as pneumonia and appendicitis are really common amongst both types of audiences. When interpreting into love affair linguistic communications and even into Germanic linguistic communications, the word tends to be tanta mount to that of the English with minor spelling alterations: EnglishSpanishGerman Pneumonia Neumonia Pneumonie Appendicitis Apendicitis Appendizitis However, in some states such as Germany and Denmark, Latin continues to move as the tongue franca in medical specialty and therefore is non understood by the ballad audience. They are replaced by more popularized footings in order to make out to a larger audience: GermanDanish Expert: appendizitis expert: Appendicitis Non- expert: Blinddarmentzundung non-expert: blindtarmsbetoendelse Expert: Pneumonie expert: pneumoni Non- expert: Lungenentzundung non- expert: lungebetoendelse Such

Testing Your Perl Installation
Testing Your Perl Installation In order to test our fresh installation of Perl, well need a simple Perl program. The first thing most new programmers learn is how to make the script say Hello World. Lets look at a simple Perl script that does just that. #!/usr/bin/perl print Hello World.\n; The first line is there to tell the computer where the Perl interpreter is located. Perl is an interpreted language, which means that rather than compiling our programs, we use the Perl interpreter to run them. This first line is usually #!/usr/bin/perl or #!/usr/local/bin/perl, but depends on how Perl was installed on your system. The second line tells the Perl interpreter to print the words Hello World. followed by a newline (a carriage return). If our Perl installation is working correctly, then when we run the program, we should see the following output: Hello World. Testing your Perl installation is different depending on the type of system you are using, but well take a look at the two most common situations: Testing Perl on Windowsà (ActivePerl)Testing Perl on *nix Systems The first thing youll want to do is make sure youve followed theà ActivePerl Installation tutorialà and installed ActivePerl and the Perl Package Manager on your machine. Next, create a folder on your C: drive to store your scripts in for the sake of the tutorial, well call this folderà perlscripts. Copy the Hello World program into C:\perlscripts\ and make sure the filename isà hello.pl. Getting a Windows Command Prompt Now we need to get to a Windows command prompt. Do this by clicking on theà Startà menu and selecting the itemà Run.... This will pop up the run screen that contains theà Open:à line. From here, just typeà cmdà into theà Open:à field and press theà Enterà key. This will open (yet another) window which is our Windows command prompt. You should see something like this: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\perlguide\Desktop We need to change to the directory (cd) that contains our Perl scripts by typing in the following command: cd c:\perlscripts That should make our prompt reflect the change in the path like so: C:\perlscripts Now that were in the same directory as the script, we can run it simply by typing its name at the command prompt: hello.pl If Perl is installed and running correctly, it should output the phrase Hello World., and then return you to the Windows command prompt. An alternate method of testing your Perl installation is by running the interpreter itself with theà -và flag: perl -v If the Perl interpreter is working correctly, this should output quite a bit of information, including the current version of Perl you are running. Testing Your Installation If you are using a school or work Unix / Linux server, chances are Perl is already installed and running when in doubt, just ask your system administrator or technical staff. There are a few ways we can test our installation, but first, you will need to complete two preliminary steps.ââ¬â¹ First, you must copy your Hello World program to your home directory. This is usually accomplished via FTP.à Once your script has been copied to your server, you will need to get to aà shell promptà on the machine, usually via SSH. When you have reached the command prompt, you can change into yourà homeà directory by typing the following command: cd ~ Once there, testing your Perl installation is very similar to testing on a windows system with one extra step. In order toà executeà the program, you must first tell the operating system that the file is OK to execute. This is done by setting the permissions on the script so that anyone can execute it. You can do this by using theà chmodà command: chmod 755 hello.pl Once youve set the permissions, you can then execute the script by simply typing its name. hello.pl If that doesnt work, you might not have your home directory in your current path. As long as you are in the same directory as the script, you can tell the operating system to run the program (in the current directory) like so: ./hello.pl If Perl is installed and running correctly, it should output the phrase Hello World., and then return you to the Windows command prompt. An alternate method of testing your Perl installation is by running the interpreter itself with theà -và flag: perl -v If the Perl interpreter is working correctly, this should output quite a bit of information, including the current version of Perl you are running.

Indulgences and their Role in the Reformation
Indulgences and their Role in the Reformation An ââ¬Ëindulgenceââ¬â¢ was part of medieval Catholicism and a major trigger to the Protestant Reformation. Basically, indulgences could be purchased in order to reduce the punishment you were owed for your sins. Buy an indulgence for a loved one, and they would go to heaven and not burn in hell. Buy an indulgence for yourself, and you neednt worry about that pesky affair youd been having. If this sounds like cash or good deeds for less pain, that is exactly what it was. To many holy people like Martin Luther, this was against Jesus, against the idea of the church, against the point of seeking forgiveness and redemption. When Luther acted against it, Europe had evolved to the point that it would split in the revolution of the Reformation. What They Did The medieval western Christian church ââ¬â the Eastern Orthodox church was different and not covered by this article ââ¬â included two key concepts which allowed indulgences to occur. Firstly, you were going to be punished for the sins you accumulated in life, and this punishment was only partly erased by good works (like pilgrimage, prayers or donations to charity), divine forgiveness and absolution. The more you had sinned, the greater the punishment. Secondly, by the medieval era, the concept of purgatory had developed: a state entered after death where you would suffer the punishment which would reduce your sins until you were free, so you werenââ¬â¢t damned to hell but could work things off. This system invited something which would enable sinners to reduce their punishments in return for something else, and as purgatory emerged so bishops were given the powers to reduce penance. This developed in the crusades, where you were encouraged to go and fight (often) abroad in return for your sins being canceled. It proved a highly useful tool to motivate a worldview where the church, God,à and sin were central. From this, the indulgence system developed. Do enough to earn a full or ââ¬ËPlenaryââ¬â¢ indulgence from the Pope or lesser ranks of churchmen, and all your sin (and punishment) was erased. Partial indulgences would cover a lesser amount, and complex systems developed which claimed to tell you to the day how much sin youââ¬â¢d canceled. Why They Went Wrong This system of reducing sin and punishment then went, to the eyes of many Reformation reformers, hideously wrong. People who didnââ¬â¢t, or couldnââ¬â¢t, go on crusade wondered whether some other practice might allow them to earn the indulgence. Perhaps something financial? So the indulgence came to be associated with people ââ¬Ëbuyingââ¬â¢ them, whether by offering to donate sums to charitable works, to buildings to praise the church and all the other ways money could be used. This began in the thirteenth century and developed, to the point where government and church were creaming off a percentage of the funds, and complaints about selling forgiveness spread. You could even buy indulgences for your ancestors, relatives, and friends who were already dead. The Division of Christianity Money had infested the indulgence system, and when Martin Luther wrote his 95 Theses in 1517 he attacked it. As the church attacked him back he developed his views, and indulgences were squarely in his sights. Why, he wondered, did the church need to accumulate money when the Pope could, really, just free everyone from purgatory by himself? The church divided into fragments, many of which threw the indulgence system entirely out, and while they didnââ¬â¢t cancel the underpinnings, the Papacy reacted by banning the sale of indulgences in 1567 (but they still existed within the system.) Indulgences were the trigger to centuries of bottled up anger and confusion against the church and allowed it to be cleaved into pieces.

Combining Nurse leader with Advocacy Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Combining Nurse leader with Advocacy - Term Paper Example First, there is the personal and professional accountability where through my advancement of education from an RN to a BSN I have become a professional in the workplace, as I understand better the needs of the patients. Additionally, I have managed to ensure that I am ethically upright in this profession, as well as, competent and good at my job (Daly, Speedy & Jackson, 2004). The greatest disadvantage or weakness, I am facing now in this area, is the lack of an appropriate certification to a specific specialty of career. My previous career in home ventilation management came to a stop after I suffered physical disability, which would not allow me to work. Over time, my certification in this field expired, and that is why I opted for a different career path. Although, I now considered myself a novice in terms of professionalism, the steps I am taking right now are aimed at overcoming this challenge. Under career planning, I visualize myself in a better place than I am right now because I am confident that I am heading in the right direction. Education advancement has been a major boost to my career plan because I am improving my career status with each step I take as I advance my education level (Kelly, 2012). It is for this reason that I will consider my strength under career planning to the fact that I am furthering my education, which contributes to gathering of a vast amount of knowledge through the learning experience. My main weakness, in this area, would also be my physical disability. However, I am determined to work hard and do everything in my ability to help me achieve my career goals despite the hurdles in my way. The third area, I am going to look at, is the personal journey disciplines, which involves the techniques that are set aside to help an individual grow and be strong as a leader. In my case, this is an area that I have little knowledge about but am working on and learning about shared leadership, as well

Presentation and written submission Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Presentation and written submission - Essay Example The global crisis was developed mainly due to the bursting of the US housing bubble, which stemmed from adverse selection of mortgages and resulted US mortgage crisis. Evidently, the global financial crisis slowed down economic activities and this situation in turn impeded the economic growth of nations around the globe. More precisely, the 2008 financial crisis has led to a dramatic increase in uncertainty in financial markets. Specifically, the resulting inability of lenders to solve the adverse selection problem makes them less willing to lend, which leads to a decline in lending, investment and aggregate economic activity. This paper will evaluate the financial market uncertainty identified by giving some real life examples. Financial market uncertainty Thoughtless provision of mortgage loans and increased speculation in the housing market significantly contributed to a series of bank collapses in the United States. The failure of credit rating agencies in properly identifying th e risk elements associated with complex securities and subsequent housing bubble also contributed to the global financial crisis. Most of the studies conducted to identify the real causes of the 2008 financial crisis reported that adverse selection in mortgages led to housing bubble and bank failures. Therefore, today banks and other financial institutions across the globe are extremely bothered about the possibility of defaults in loan repayments; and hence they are hardly willing to lend even to potential clients. Naturally, this situation leads to a decline in lending and investment. The decelerated financial transactions adversely affect circulation of money which in turn reduce economic growth rate. Decline in lending In response to this uncertain economic condition, UK banks significantly reduced lending over the last few years. As Tortman (2011) reported in the Telegraph dated Feb 28, in 2011, UKââ¬â¢s four leading banks limited their commercial real estate property lendin g by a combined total of ?17.2 billion. Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group, Europeââ¬â¢s two largest commercial property lenders, trimmed their loans by a combined ?14.5 billion (ibid). As per the same report, HSBC and Barclays cut lending by a combined ?2.7 billion. These figures indicate that how UK lenders deal with property lending after the global credit crisis. According to Phil Clark, co-author of the Property Industry Allianceââ¬â¢s report, UK banks have been very vigilant in mitigating their loan exposure to real estate (as cited in Trotman, 2011). He added that annual real estate lending in UK would drop to ?100bn over the next few years (ibid). As Milliken (2013) reported in Reuters dated March 4, in order to boost bank lending and thereby to promote economic growth of the UK, the Bank of England and the finance ministry launched the flagship plan (Funding for Lending Scheme) June 2012. This plan was intended to offer cheap funds to banks if they booste d lending to medium sized businesses and home buyers. However, some recent reports indicate that although banks and other lending institutions have utilised almost ?14bn of the central bank funds offered, net lending indicates a reverse trend (ibid). The report says that Vince Cable, the UK Secretary of State for Business, admitted that the result was ââ¬Ëvery disappointingââ¬â¢. Financial releases indicate that borrowers repaid nearly

30 Doradus Image Tour
30 Doradus Image Tour Image Tour 30 Doradus as a image tour and I chose this tour because it is the largest star forming region found near our own galaxies and I thought that it would be a good topic to learn about while I am typing this, and if you are reading this I am going to bring you on a tour of writing this whole this so sit back and grab some popcorn and get ready to read. 30 doradus contains things such as Newborn star clusters, Older Star Clusters, Supernova remnant, Pillar Chain, Dark Nebulae, Hot Bubble, Hill Region, and a Runway Star. I am going to break this into parts. A Newborn Star Cluster is a bright and dense star cluster called R136, and is one of the largest star cluster near our galaxy. Stars usually live to nearly a billion years and these stars are 1 to 2 million years old. These stars will eventually explode into supernovae. Bright stars emit a energetic ultraviolet radiation that heats up and erodes the gas clouds around the star cluster. Dense dust covers the gas creat very dark pillars hence the name pillar chain because there is more than just one. Resembling a gaseous version of a coral reef, these fragmented and wispy clouds are along the edge of a large of extremely hot gas. This gas has been heated to about over 1 million degrees by the high energy radiation from hot stars or stellar explosions, this could be why it it super hot. Lastly but not least is a runway star that was caught speeding at a velocity of 250,000 miles per hour. This star though is 1 to 2 million years old meaning that it could of got at a velocity that fast from a stellar explosion or it ejected itself from the newborn gas cluster but if it did it would move a lot slower than how it is now showing that it was a stellar explosion. When gas is heated a lot it starts to glow a pinkish-red because of a newborn star heating up the gas making that star to appear like a rose-like color. Stars form in the deepest, darkest, and deepest part of hydrogen dust clouds. These dark clouds are remnants of a gigantic dark nebulae that is going to be formed. There was more but I didnt want to add it because it might exceed the 1 page limit for the assignment. Discoveries Discovering Planets Beyond In this discovery it changed austomeners lives forever and used hubble to do so but many planets have been found also found with telescopes on the surface but hubble changed eyes forever. It was then they asked questions like how do planets form, are there alien atmospheres that we can live on?, and can we hunt for a planet that is close to us. All these questions have been answered and it was all because of hubble. Now people have been begining theories that planets just are formed from stars that collided with asteroids but actually plantes have been formed by asteroids colliding with each other to make much bigger asteroids and eventually making a planet. This is true because hubble has seen it happen and made a completely new planet. Finding planets around other stars is hard. Planets are tiny relative to most other objects in the universe. And they can be a billion times dimmer than the stars they orbit. Because planets in other solar systems are nearly impossible to see directly, astronomers have had to come up with innovative ways to hunt these covert objects. Only in the past couple decades has our technology and techniques been up to the task of finding extrasolar planets. The Hubble Space Telescope has a wide range of astronomical pursuits from studying black holes in distant galaxies to observing members of our solar system. So it isnt able to dedicate a lot of time to the hunt for extrasolar planets. But that doesnt mean Hubble hasnt tried or succeeded. In fact, Hubble has conducted some of the farthest searches of extrasolar planets ever attempted. It has proven that enigmatic objects discovered by other telescopes are planets. And it has made some exoplanet firsts.. Lastly are we alone in space that question is average because still many other planets that we havent seen so that is still an unknown question.

Harry Lavender Essay Essay
As you all know, even a visual tells a story. However, characters in a text through distinctive voices demonstrate their personalities which contribute to an insightful understanding of the text. Marele Deyââ¬â¢s novel, The Life and Crimes of Harry Lavender (Harryâ⬠¦) 1988 expounds the criminal activities of crime boss Harry Lavender whose distinctive voice though unheard is loudest in the text portraying his personality of a corrupt crime lord. In conjunction the narrator, Claudia Valentineââ¬â¢s voice is heard through her thoughts and actions portraying a person who fights such evil men like Lavender. Howard Hawkââ¬â¢s film, The Big Sleep (1946) based on Raymond Chandlerââ¬â¢s novel by the same name demonstrates that crime even in those bleak times after the War demonstrated the distinctive voices of criminals. How many of us have heard power invested in individuals but have not seen them? They exist in reality and in texts that capture the interest of their audiences through the uniquely moulded voices of characters. Some voices are heard strongly throughout the text while others are silent but just as important. Deyââ¬â¢s significant character rather ironically is the crime boss Harry Lavender (Lavender) whose unheard voice written as monologues in ââ¬Ë Up here ..â⬠¦I glide effortlessly along the streets, jump from building to buildingââ¬â¢, through first person narration not only reflects the arrogance in his voice but also demonstrates his power as a crime boss. He dreams of his funeral which he describes as, ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦in death as in life the police allow me smooth passageâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬â¢ through an arrogant tone to show his importance ironically as a social outcast. The protagonist, detective, Claudia Valentineââ¬â¢s voice is largely in first person narrative ââ¬ËI woke up feeling like deathââ¬â¢ metaphorically alluding to her hangover from a nightââ¬â¢s drinking. Deyââ¬â¢s unique style of crime writing lies in her deception of her audience into believing that the distinctive voice in the opening chapter is that of a male. Her visual imagery of, ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦. ash trays full of buttsâ⬠¦.. empty bottles of Jack Danielsââ¬â¢ including a ââ¬Å"good-looking blonde in the bed next to meâ⬠challenges the audiences pre-conceived notions, as they assume the blonde is female. The narratorââ¬â¢s voice brings out distinctive features of a ââ¬Å"maleâ⬠talking and is a subversion of the usual detective genre which is dominated by ââ¬Å"maleâ⬠detectives. As a detective fiction film noir text, The Big Sleep reflects the ââ¬Å"bleak darknessâ⬠of the Post World War one era in which economic crisis, prohibition and the appearance of a ââ¬Ëgangsterââ¬â¢ underworld created an atmosphere of social decayâ⬠caused by black market in liquor supplies. Philip Marlowe, the detective emerges as the lonesome anti-hero who confronts the complex crime. He is the epitome of the hard-boiled detective, isolated from society, his brusque and laconic vernacular characterising the painfully honest risk taker, drinker and smoker, with a deep voice that is so characteristically American. The opening scene is captured as Marlowe is obscured when the butler opens the door and the audience can only hear his deep laconic American drawl that typifies Humphrey Bogartââ¬â¢s style. ââ¬ËMy Name is Marlowe, Mr Sternwood wants to see meââ¬â¢, which prepares the audience through his distinctive voice to meet a man of strength and confidence. Health and Social Care Best Care
Question: Write an essay on Health and Social Care. Answer: Introduction Health and social care is the sector which attempts to make connection within people and the service providers are bound to give their best care services to the service users through effective communication. Therefore, communication is one of the key aspects in the health and social care sector. In this context, it can be said that for providing excellent service to the health and social care users, they should have sufficient skills and knowledge for making an effective communication with the patients (Baillie 2014). It has been revealed that effective communication and interaction within the care providers and care users enhance the efficiency of care processes and make the improvement faster. In this assignment, the major concern is the exploration of communication theories and skills which are used in the health and social care sector for effective communication process (Mrtensson and Hensing 2012). In this context, cultural factors, perceptions, legislations, policies and proced ures affecting the health and social care services are also discussed. In addition, the ICT software which is used in the Health and social care sector for enhancing the effective communication would be discussed here. Exploring communication skills in health and social care Application of relevant theories of communication to health and social care context There are different theories which are used for understanding the communication skills used in the health care context. Within these theories, the behaviorist theory, cognitive theory, operant conditioning theory and social learning theories are relevant to the case scenarios of health and social care. According to the behaviorist theory, several environmental stimuli can shape or influence individuals behavior (Barry and Edgman-Levitan 2012). This theory discusses that behaviors are gained via conditioning and based on the fact it has been highlighted that learning is done through different views. Here, in Annas case scenario, Anna felt bad due to the negative behavioral and communication skills of the doctor and nursing professionals. The negative communication also affected her primary health assessment which could be better through a good communication process. The doctor failed to assess her medical history. On the other hand, in Panorama documentary, the elderly patients have b een abused as a result of communication deficiency (Lapkin et al. 2012). According to the social learning theory, the social relationship establishment within nurse, doctor and patients is very important for enhancing the efficiency of social patients positive health outcomes. According to this theory, the nurse can be a good role model for the patient who can promote the healthy and positive image of the hospital. Applying the social learning theory for analyzing the case studies in the assignment, it has been revealed that Anna has not been treated with a good communication by the doctor; rather there was no positive communication within the patient and doctor (Coleman et al. 2012). The doctor blamed Anna that she might be drunk and she is wasting their precious time, but he did it by only observing her, health assessment was not prioritized. On the other hand, in Panorama case study, it has been seen that there was a lack of positive relationship development within the elderly patients and nurses due to inconvenience of nursing professionals care servi ces. According to the Operant conditioning theory, there are two reinforcement in behavioral aspects. In the positive one, the particular behavioral consequences receive the expected outcomes, in contrast, the negative behavioral aspects results in the removal of unpleasant things. In the current case scenario, Annas doctor made her husband feel bad by reinforcing negative behavior; he did not provided required health care serviced needed by the patient at that situation. In spite of completing his duty of care, he blamed Anna for her physical condition, that she was drunk without analyzing her previous health history. It influenced Ana and her husbands thought negatively (Guise et al. 2012). Additionally, the Panorama documentary showed negatively that the communication leads to negative communicative effects. Use of communication skills in the health and social care context Two way communications is important in the health and social care sector where there would be the involvement of both care user and care providers (Cowles 2012). The important communication skills which are important in the health and social care sector include listening skills paraphrasing, explanation, reflecting, consulting, questioning and consulting. In the context of Annas case study, the doctor did not have adequate communication skills. He did not allowed her husband to interact with him properly, on spite of investigating the proper reason behind Annas condition, being judgmental; he interpreted Annas condition in his own way, thereby showing lack of communication skills in respect to work at any health and social care context. However, I always prioritize positive communication while dealing with my patients in my workplace. I always prefer to allow the patients or patients family to express their view and ideas regarding their current status. After listening to their concern, I always attempt to assess all the information provided by the patient as well as attempt to investigate their previous medical history and analyze those on the basis of their current condition. In the panorama documentary, the elder patients attempted to interact with the nursing professionals regarding their issues for completing ADLs, however, nurses did not show dignity or respect towards the patient, in spite of that they continuously promoted miscommunication by not listening the patient properly and forcing the patient to do some work which is beyond her wish. It decreased the patient satisfaction as well as patients positive health outcomes (Glasby and Dickinson 2014.) In this context, I always try to satisfy my patients by providing a supportive environment and prioritizing their needs, both emotional and physical. I always keep myself ready to listen any kinds of my patients concern. In contrast to the panorama case scenario, I always prefe r to avoid any kind of negative body language while talking with elderly patients and try to keep my pitch low as well as try to make the conversation transparent by questioning the patient about any kinds of problem. Review of methods for dealing with inappropriate interpersonal communication between individuals in health and social care settings Interpersonal communication refers to the communication which influences people to manage and strengthen relationship. According to Glasby (2012) pain and other patients issues can become less through the prioritization of interpersonal communication. If Annas doctor attempts to use effective interpersonal communication skills to establish positive relationship with the patient and family, she might feel better and there might be a chance of her proper health assessment, thereby maximizing her recovery. The uncertainty theory discusses how to deal with inadequate communication. With the help of this theory, it has been seen that in panorama case study, nursing professionals were discussing their personal issues in front of the patient which might reduce her satisfaction and recovery. Inadequate and unprofessional behavior of the nursing staffs can be minimized by providing proper training to the staffs. In addition, proper review system and strict professional regulation can minimize these kinds of inconvenience in workplace. Nurses could then be more concern about avoiding negligence towards patient. After addressing these kinds of activities, immediately observer should report higher authority to undertake strict action (Guise et al. 2012). Analysis of strategies for supporting users of health and social care services with specific communication needs For overwhelming the barriers in communication within care givers and users, care givers should be trained adequately for gaining knowledge about different languages and specific needs of diverse class of people. The health care centre should promote the development of a transparent communication strategy which would help the professionals to understand the specific needs of patients (Thompson and McCabe 2012). While assessing the patient, the health care professionals should make eye contact and show respect and dignity towards patient, using appropriate non verbal communication skills is a key aspect to eliminate communication or language barrier in health care sector. In Annas case, the doctor could not understood Annas body language and did not made eye contact with them, promoting miscommunication. Understanding the influence of the communication process in health and social care Influence of values and cultural factors on the communication process Values and cultures are the pillars of communication and interpersonal relationship within the service users and service providers. According to Ogden (2012) the organizational culture is influenced by the contribution of each members of the organization, therefore, negative consequences in the organizational culture is the result of inadequate values and culture of the nursing staffs in the health care organization. For example, in panorama case study, the nurses perception, values and inadequate culture affected the recovery of the elderly patients through abuse. Culture is related to social behavior and perception which is specific for individual communities. Cross cultural communication skills are very important for the health care staffs as they have to deal with patients from different communities and they should use a transparent and understandable language by everyone Griffiths et al. 2012). In this context, some people believe in looking directly into eyes during communicati on is bad, whereas others influence eye contact during communication. Sometimes, it has also been seen that patients prefer to be assisted or cared by the professional of same sex, for an example, women has been addressed to take care from a male doctor or nurse (Ting-Toomey and Chung 2012). In this context, professionals should prioritize patients demand for satisfaction. In Annas case, the professional did not provide value to patients condition showing an inefficient culture. Therefore, the doctor should be trained how to deal with sub-cultural patients. Impact of legislations, charters and codes of practices on the communication process of health and social care A number of ethical codes and legislations are applied to the activities in health and social care sectors. Data protection Act 1998 is followed by the health and social care organizations for protecting the information provided by the patients about their personal records. Annas doctor did not even record her personal information and did not analyze her previous health history which might help him to assess the patient. The organization should follow the Public Health law, 2010 by which government can review the organizational policies and procedures. The disability discrimination Act, 1992 helps to promote equal opportunity to all the disable patients in the health care facilities like other patients (Vardaman et al. 2012). The Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977 helps to avoid any kinds of racial, gender or economic status related discrimination of patients by the care providers through effective communication. In addition, the ethical and professional codes ensure that the organization and members are complying with their duties, thereby ensuring appropriate use of communication strategies and communication skills. In the panorama case studies, the nurses did not showed patients dignity and breached the disability discrimination act as well as data protection act, as they did not comply with their adequate role of assisting the elderly patient (Glasby and Dickinson 2014). Effectiveness of organizational systems and policies in promoting good communication practices The health care organization should implement effective organizational tools for promoting effective communication within the professionals and patients. In this context, organization should arrange training programs for newly joined members for improving the communication process via e-mail, internet applications, e-records. These would help to enhance the efficiency good communication processes (Verlinde et al. 2012). Policies according to the promotion of the health and social care legislation helps to manage information, recording, sorting, documenting and keeping the information confidential. In this context, the Data protection Act 1998 helps to protect all the information related aspects for safeguarding patients. The confidentiality policy implemented in the organization according to the Confidentiality act ensures that the personal information of patients will be kept confidential. The human right act 1998 helps to ensure high quality of care and dignity through the organizational policies and procedures (Vis et al. 2012). All of these policies and procedures help to promote good communication process. In the panorama case scenario, it has been clearly reviewed that lack of adequate monitoring and reviewing system is the major reason behind the elderly abuse. Thus, frequent assistance is required for developing effective monitoring system in the health and social care organization for reducing these kinds of negligence (Degni et al. 2012). Suggesting ways to improve communication process in health and social care settings There are a number of ways by which the communication process in the health and social care settings can be improved. A review team can be established including nurse, doctor, consultant, social worker and managers and the role of this team would be to review day to day improvement in the organizational activities. In addition, this team would review the adherence of the organizational procedures with the health and social care policies and legislations. It would help to improve the performance of each staff by avoiding any kinds of inconvenience in the health care service. Training is very important for strengthening the communication skills and performance of each member. As in the case of elderly abuse and Annas physical condition, it has been revealed that due to lack of knowledge about how to communicate with disable or elderly patients, the negative consequences were enhancing, therefore, training can improve the situation (Saleebey 2012). Exploring the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in health and social care Accessibility and application of standard ICT software packages in order to provide support work in the health and social care sector The ICT technologies are nowadays used very frequently in the health and social care sectors for enhancing the efficiency of communication processes. These technologies give the accessibilities of patients and other important information via telecommunication applications including wireless network, internet, cell phones and other communication mediums. The information through this software can be protected and distributed thoroughly (Green et al. 2012). In the health and social care sector, a number of software are used including word processing software for formatting and editing text based information including letters, memos, spreadsheet. In addition, the medical software which used in health and social care sector include electronic health record system (EHR), picture archiving and communication system (PACKS), clinical decision support system (CDS) and other important machines like Automated dispensing Machines (ADMS) (Moss 2012). I have used standard ICT software while working in my organization. I have operated electric diary record and electronic health records for accessing patients regular health information. I have always attempted to follow the organizational policy. It helped me to keep the records confidential while updating the records regularly. For accessing the screenshot, I search for vital signs in Google search engine. The machine can efficiently measure pulse rate, blood pressure, SPo2 and temperature. In addition, this machine gives information for setting the care plan for the patients (Moorhead et al. 2013). Evaluating the advantages of using ICT in the health and social care for users of this services, associated workers and organization There are a number of advantages of using ICT software in the health and social care sector. Through the use of e-mail, internet and telephone, some important information about patients condition can be discussed with the professional at the time of emergency. Through SMS also an important message can be conveyed to others very quickly with quick reply. Through the help of internet and telecommunication, at any situation, patients can consult with doctors about their prescribed medication and other medical help. Sometimes the use of e-medicine gives the information about the drugs, illness based on which the treatment is planned (Mockford et al. 2012). The telehealth is ICT software provides people different options for controlling their daily activities, such as it provides opportunities to dementia patients to be involved in music, selecting audio and tracks and thereby enhancing their satisfaction. The ICT software promotes the involvement of family of patients in care activities which influences the positive environment. With the help of ICT software the care workers can reduce the medical errors which can help to enhance the quality of care by improving the patient security related aspects with the use of correct information about the service user (Best et al. 2012). Analysis of the legal considerations regarding the use of ICT effect on health and social care services A number of legislation is considered in the health and social care sector for using ICT applications in the organization. Using ICT software can involve a number of health related problems in people using the software. Working with the ICT software can cause pain in upper limb along with injury in arms, cramp and repetitive. It also affects eye strength negatively. It can also cause backache. Legislations related to the information protection including the Data protection act 1998 depicts that all the personal information related to the patient and all the medication should be kept confidential, safely stored and distributed with the proper care, thereby ensuring consumers protection (Kohorn 2012). The data protection Act 1998 and the act of health and safety of employees act 1974, the care givers should be responsible for their legal duties according to appropriate legal and safety framework at the health and social care organization (Mitchell et al. 2012). The electronic database is safer for keeping patients data safely than written documents; there is less chance of misplacing data. With the help of Computer Misuse act 1990, the health care operators can minimize the misuse of patients personal and health related information in other work, thereby enhancing the quality of service. In the case study, lack of nurses compliance with the legislative framework and codes of professional conducts has been identified which needs strict regulation and monitoring system. Conclusion This assignment highlighted the importance communication in the health and social care sector and the role of health care workers in achieving the goals of healthcare. It has been revealed that effective communication and interaction within the care providers and care users enhance the efficiency of care processes and make the improvement faster. In this assignment, the major concern is the exploration of communication theories and skills which are used in the health and social care sector for effective communication process.
